Nanchan Temple: Great Buddha Hall
Tang Dynasty (618-907 AD)
782 AD, Ŧ Dezong (779-805 AD)
Comments: The temple's Great Buddha Hall is China's oldest extant
timber-frame building. It contains an original set of important Tang
sculptures. The temple escaped destruction during the anti-Buddhist
purges of 845, perhaps due to its isolated location in the mountains.
