Comments: Glyphs (or "hieroglyphs") are the basic components of
Maya writing. Some glyphs are logographs, that is signs that represent
whole words (for example, the head of a quetzal bird that reads k'uk',
"quetzal"); others are syllables that spell words phonetically.
